Electrical repairs and upgrades in Oregon

Start with the problem or equipment you need powered. Repairing a fault, adding a circuit, replacing a panel and installing an EV charger are different jobs; ask for a scope that names yours.

Business listings are being checked

What to include in your estimate request

Describe the job before calling

  • Note which lights, outlets or appliances are affected, when the problem began, and any recent changes. Do not open equipment to diagnose it yourself.
  • For a new appliance or charger, collect the model information and installation location. Ask the electrician to assess the existing electrical system.

Compare the full installation scope

  • Separate diagnosis from repair, and distinguish a new circuit from a panel or service change. Identify equipment, cable routing and finish repairs.
  • Ask who handles permits, utility coordination, inspection, labeling and final testing. Put allowances and exclusions in the estimate.

Check who will do the work

  • Match the business name to the license records and ask about the credentials of the people assigned to the job.
  • Keep the written scope and any approved changes. A general contractor record alone is not a check of electrical credentials.

Oregon credential and permit starting points

Use both Oregon BCD and CCB sources when checking electrical work. Confirm the license type and permitted scope for the business and the people performing your project.

Common questions

Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?

That cannot be decided from the charger model alone. Ask for an assessment of the existing system and alternatives, with any panel or service work priced separately.

Can I compare two electrical estimates by price alone?

First check that both include the same equipment, routing, permit responsibilities, testing and finish repairs. Different exclusions can make the totals misleading.

Compare the whole scope

Use the quote-comparison guide and budget worksheet to keep labor, materials, approvals, disposal and exclusions explicit. Prices and availability come from the business, not this guide.
